Not everyone is a fan of hiring consultants or outsourcing, but consultants have aided numerous companies to success regardless of economy strength. In a weak economy, consultants are used to reduce expenses. In a strong economy, consultants allow companies to grow faster and optimize their processes. In a moderate economy, consultants achieve a combination of both reducing costs and optimization of efficiencies.

There are a number of advantages to using consultants:

1. Removes bias – Bias, be it perceived or actual, can cast a shadow over research, recommendations and solutions, using a consultant from outside your own company removes any suspicion of bias.
2. Expertise – You will benefit from special expertise and experience in the fields that are required. Your company will gain access to skills that may be scarce or nonexistent in your own company.
3. Flexibility – You can use consultants as needed be it for a special project, defined length of time or on retainer – your company benefits from flexibility in the relationship
4. Cost saving – You save on recruitment, tax and benefit contributions, training, etc.
